REPLACING MISSING TEETH

There are 4 main alternatives for replacing missing teeth:  bridges, partial dentures, complete dentures, and dental implants.  If teeth are not replaced, other teeth may get out of line.  These out of line teeth are harder to clean, are more likely to get gum disease or cavities, and can cause jaw problems.

1. Bridge

One or more false teeth are held between healthy teeth on both sides.  It is cemented in place and you cannot remove it.

2. Partial Denture

One or more false teeth are held in place by clasps that fit onto nearby healthy teeth.  You can take the false teeth out yourself, for cleaning and at night.

3. Complete Denture

If you lose your teeth, false teeth can replace all your natural teeth.  You can take the false teeth out yourself, for cleaning and at night.

4. Dental Implants

These are used to support false teeth or a fixed bridge.  A titanium post is secured within your jaw bone and a crown is secured to this post.  You must have healthy gums and bone to support the implant.
